What is LEP Resources?

The OWFR LEP Resources plugin powers the Lived Experience Partners (LEP) Orientation Resources widget on the website. It provides new and existing Lived Experience Partners with organized, tabbed access to orientation materials, committee information, and background on the Ottawa West Four Rivers Ontario Health Team.

The widget is fully editable by logged-in Editors and Administrators. Cards, tabs, and the welcome banner can all be updated directly on the public page without going into the WordPress dashboard.

What does it contain?

Shortcode: [owfr_lep] This shortcode is placed on the LEP Resources page by the developer. You do not need to modify the shortcode to manage content.

How it looks on the website

The LEP Resources widget appears as a tabbed interface with the following elements from top to bottom:

  1. Intro bar: A short instruction message explaining how to use the tabs.
  2. Tab navigation: A row of icon-labelled tabs for each section. Visitors click a tab to show its content.
  3. Section header: A title and subtitle for the active tab.
  4. Welcome banner (Welcome tab only): A highlighted box with a greeting message from the OHT team.
  5. Resource cards: A grid of cards, each with a title, summary, and optional link buttons or image.

Accessing the edit controls

Unlike most WordPress plugins, LEP Resources is edited directly on the public website, not from a separate dashboard page. The edit controls appear automatically when you are logged in as an Editor or Administrator.

  1. Log in to WordPress at ottawawestfourrivers.com/wp-admin.
  2. Navigate to the LEP Resources page on the public website.
  3. While logged in, you will see edit controls appear: Edit pencil icons on cards, Add Card buttons at the bottom of each tab, and + Add Tab at the end of the tab list.
Not seeing the edit controls? Make sure you are logged in to WordPress in the same browser session. Log in at ottawawestfourrivers.com/wp-admin, then return to the LEP Resources page.
4

Adding a new resource card

  1. Navigate to the LEP Resources page while logged in.
  2. Click the tab where you want to add the new card (e.g. "Documents & Frameworks").
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the tab's content area and click the + Add Card button.
  4. A new blank card appears with editable fields. Fill in the title, description, and any links.
  5. To add an image, click the image placeholder area to open the WordPress Media Library and select or upload an image.
  6. Click Save on the card. The card is saved and published immediately.
Tip: Adding links to a card. Most resource cards support one or more link buttons (e.g. "Download PDF", "Learn More"). When editing a card, use the link fields to add a button label and URL.
5

Editing an existing card

  1. Navigate to the LEP Resources page while logged in.
  2. Click the tab containing the card you want to edit.
  3. Find the card and click the pencil (Edit) icon that appears when you hover over it, or the Edit button on the card.
  4. An edit form opens inline. Make your changes to the title, description, links, or image.
  5. Click Save to apply the changes. The card updates immediately.
Tip: Editing the section header. Each tab has a section header (title and subtitle) at the top of its content area. Click the pencil icon on the section header to edit the tab's title and subtitle text.
6

Hiding or deleting a card

Cards can be hidden (removed from the public view without permanently deleting them) or permanently deleted.

Hiding a card

  1. Click the edit icon on the card.
  2. Find the Hide or Visibility toggle in the edit form.
  3. Toggle it off and click Save. The card is hidden from visitors but remains in the system.

Permanently deleting a card

  1. Click the edit icon on the card.
  2. Click the Delete button (shown in red) in the edit form.
  3. Confirm the deletion. The card is permanently removed.
Deletion is permanent. Deleted cards cannot be recovered. If you are unsure, use the Hide option instead so you can restore the card later.
7

Reordering cards

Cards within a tab can be reordered by dragging and dropping them into the desired position.

  1. Navigate to the tab containing the cards you want to reorder, while logged in.
  2. Click and hold the drag handle (a grip icon) on the left or top of a card.
  3. Drag the card up or down (or left/right in a grid layout) to its new position.
  4. Release the mouse. The new order is saved automatically.
Order saves automatically. You do not need to click a Save button after reordering. The new order is stored as soon as you drop the card.
8

Managing tabs

In addition to the four built-in tabs, you can add custom tabs to hold new categories of resources.

Adding a custom tab

  1. While logged in, scroll to the end of the tab row and click the + Add Tab button.
  2. Enter a name for the new tab and choose an icon from the available options.
  3. Click Save Tab. The new tab appears in the navigation and is ready for cards.

Deleting a custom tab

  1. Click the tab you want to remove.
  2. Look for the Delete Tab option (shown when logged in).
  3. Confirm the deletion. The tab and all its cards are permanently removed.
Built-in tabs cannot be deleted. The four default tabs (Welcome, Documents & Frameworks, Committee Info, About OWFR OHT) are part of the core structure and cannot be removed. Only custom tabs can be deleted.
Deleting a tab deletes all its cards. When a custom tab is deleted, all cards inside it are permanently removed as well. Make sure you no longer need those cards before proceeding.

Using the media library for images

Resource cards can include an image (e.g. a document cover, organization logo, or illustrative photo). Images are selected from the WordPress Media Library.

  1. Open the card edit form (click the pencil icon on any card).
  2. Click the image field or the Choose Image button.
  3. The WordPress Media Library popup opens. Select an existing image or click Upload Files to upload a new one.
  4. Click Select to attach the image to the card.
  5. Click Save on the card to store the change.
Recommended image sizes. Images are displayed at a consistent size within the card layout. For best results, use images with a 16:9 or square aspect ratio and at least 400 px wide. Avoid very large files (keep under 500 KB if possible for fast loading).

Removing an image from a card

Open the card edit form, click the Remove Image or X button next to the current image, then click Save.

Frequently asked questions

I do not see any edit controls on the page.

Make sure you are logged in to WordPress at ottawawestfourrivers.com/wp-admin and that your user role is Editor or Administrator. Then navigate back to the LEP Resources page.

Can I change the order of the default tabs?

The order of the four built-in tabs (Welcome, Documents & Frameworks, Committee Info, About OWFR OHT) is fixed in the plugin design. Custom tabs added by editors always appear after the built-in tabs.

I deleted a card by mistake. Can I get it back?

Deleted cards are permanently removed and cannot be recovered through the interface. If you have a recent backup of the site, a developer can potentially restore the data. Going forward, consider using the Hide option instead of Delete when unsure.

Can two editors edit at the same time?

It is possible but not recommended. If two people save changes to the same card or tab at the same time, one person's changes may overwrite the other's. Coordinate with your team to avoid simultaneous edits.

What icons are available for custom tabs?

A set of built-in icons is available when creating a custom tab (shield, clipboard, phone, star, globe, home, activity, briefcase, map pin, zap, folder, link, heart, users, and others). Custom image URLs can also be used if a specific icon is needed.
